Victorian Amethyst Brooch c.1890
An elegant late Victorian amethyst brooch.
This classic design highlights the beauty of the gemstone with an oval cut amethyst in a wonderful handmade mount. The mount has fine triple claws each joined by a stylised heartshaped section.
The brooch has gold beadwork decoration to the outer edge and a fancy underbezel. Typical of the designs from this era the brooch has a shaped pin to the reverse. The amethyst is a lovely strong purple in colour.
Amethyst was a popular gemstone in the late Victorian era and these brooches were often worn at the nape of the neck or as a plaid pin to secure a shawl.
