Georgian Agate Fob Seal c.1820
A stylish Georgian Regency agate fob.
The top of the fob set with floral undulating beaded decoration. With a large loop to the top to suspend from a guard chain as is a typical design of this period.
The polished rectangular pale agate intaglio depicting Clan Hay heraldic crest of a falcon, inscribed with Clan Hay motto ‘SERVA JUGUM’ (keep the yoke) and inscribed with the initials JHI.
In the Georgian era fobs were worn as a decorative and useful accessory. The seal would have been used to stamp a person's crest, initials or image in sealing wax on important documents. The fob is in fabulous condition.
Era: Georgian, 1714 - 1837
Measurements: Fob 3.5 cm in height. Base is 2.3 x 2cm,
Fob is 17 grams in weight
