Diamond Royal Navy Sweetheart Brooch c.1930
A classic Art Deco diamond Navy Crown brooch.
This beautiful diamond set sweetheart brooch is made in platinum. The sails and crown are set with diamonds. The platinum accentuates the diamonds in their setting giving the brooch a bright appearance.
The brooch has a handmade safety catch to the reverse keeping it safe when worn.
It would have been made for a senior Naval officer to give as a gift to a loved one to signifiy that the giver was in the Navy and to promote patriotism.
Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. They were worn to show pride in having a sweetheart who was serving his country.
