Edwardian Enamel Sailing Burgee Brooch c.1910
An unusual early Edwardian sailing burgee brooch in the form of a French flag.
This elegant brooch is richly enamelled with the red white and blue burgee flag on a gold mast.
The flag is attached to a tapered gold bar with a pin to the reverse and a handmade safety catch. The brooch is signed Benzie Cowes to the reverse.
Benzie of Cowes was founded by Simpson Benzie, Esq. in 1862. Through his artistic application of nautical subjects to jewellery, Benzie gained a reputation for nautical jewellery and held Royal warrants through the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Era: Edwardian, 1901 - 1920
