Victorian Garnet & Pearl Saint Esprit Brooch c.1860
A fabulously ornate Victorian 'Saint Esprit' (Holy Spirit) brooch set with facetted bohemian garnets and seed pearls.
Worn by Christians, the Saint Esprit dove as jewellery can be traced back to the mid 1700s. It became popular in France during the 18th century. The dove is highly symbolic in many cultures, widely recognized as a representation of peace, love, or fidelity.
This wonderful example has an articulated branch of grapes and leaves to the base. The back of the brooch is closed set and the brooch has its original fitted box. It is in excellent condition.
