Victorian Gold Floral Locket, French c.1890
An unusual late 19th Century floral locket.
This beautiful oval locket is crafted from 18ct gold and has a pearl set floral design applied to the front. The textured gold design is that of a bunch of flowers (we believe these are daisies). The daisy represents purity, innocence and love in the Victorian language of flowers. The flowers are beautifully made and have realistic leaves and a 'ribbon' keeping them together.
The locket has a highly polished finish to the front and reverse. It is hinged to the left side and opens revealing a glazed compartment to one side. The locket has the original bevelled glass and is backed with silk.
There is a large tapered bail to the top with a fleur de lys design to the top (typical of French jewellery from the period). This allows the locket to be easily worn on a ribbon or chain.
This beautiful locket is in excellent condition.
